Submarino is a music project formed in Mérida in 1999 by Andrés Sosa (5053x), César Sosa, and Rafael López Garnica. The band combined elements of rock, trip-hop, and influences from the British alternative scene, developing a distinctive sound for its time.
In 2000, the group won the X Festival Nuevas Bandas alongside Candy66, a milestone that positioned them within Venezuela’s emerging alternative music movement. Their self-titled album Submarino was released in 2001.
The project later appeared in several compilations and tributes within the Venezuelan alternative and electronic scene, including Sentimiento Muerto Tributo Lo-Fi and Festival Nuevas Bandas: La Historia, contributing to its recognition as part of the early 2000s underground movement.
Today, Submarino’s members continue to be active in music through different projects, including the ensemble Los Andes Electrónicos.
